Initiated by the duo NowCut on their label Via Cava, Handless Guitars is a series of “split album” compilations that invites musicians to interpret a specific constraint: playing guitars without any direct intervention of the hands on the strings. This is no easy task, and it requires a complete shift in habits. The responses are compiled into a series of split albums, featuring Cigvė + NowCut, Richard Comte + Simon Henocq, and Alex January + myself for the first three volumes. On Volume 3, Alex January plays feedback loops without touching his guitar on Side A. For my part, I use a vibrating motor placed on the strings (a small adult toy) and various effects downstream of the audio signal.
