PAN TO MIME
Original Soundtrack
Original soundtrack from the film PAN TO MIME directed by Michel S’ Zumpf. Shot in black & white, and in colour, over a fourteenth-month period on 35mm film, the film was selected for the 2024 FID Marseille Film Festival.
Combining recordings of musicians performing live on screen as well as compositions exclusively created and produced in response to intense epistolary exchanges with Michel S’ Zumpf, the music is presented here as a single uninterrupted piece (downloadable in two parts), as can be heard in the film. Forming a bold and multifaceted continuous collage composition, the score features a vast and diverse ensemble of international musicians whose contributions extend from contemporary classical to experimental soundscapes. Curated and edited by the film director to reflect the visual and narrative depth of his filmic creation, PAN TO MIME’s original soundtrack brings together a remarkable array of sonic textures, melding acoustic and electronic elements.
The score showcases exclusive work by acclaimed international composers and musicians Ela Orleans, Angèle David-Guillou, Stephanos Thomopoulos, Patrick Higgins, Takumi Akashi and Mariel Roberts, as well as contributions from key figures of the French experimental scene – Hélène Breschand, Fabrice Laureau and David Fenech. The late Susan Alcorn (1953–2024) appears with her unique work on pedal steel guitar. The soundtrack also includes original live performances by Loup Uberto, Matteo Cesari, Sarah Angliss, Jean Marc Zvellenreuther and Thomas Stone, as well as vocal performances by Laura Müller, Paul-Alexandre Dubois and Lorraine Tisserant. Pierre Charial, commissioned by Michel S’ Zumpf, performs on barrel organ his own transcriptions of Erik Satie’s ‘Exemple Facheux’ and Arthur Honegger’s ‘Souvenir de Chopin.’
